Burn by The Cure appears on the soundtrack for The Crow on this very day of March 29th way back in 1994. Burn is the first track on the soundtrack which sets the pace for the rest of the album. During this time The Cure was experiencing a lineup change with band members and the only original members were vocalist Robert Smith and drummer Boris Williams.

“The whole thing was turned around in like two days. I just had the idea and we just recorded like me and him in the studio. Very much like I did the Top album, actually, he just sort of jammed the drums and I was just playing along.”
-Robert Smith
The critically acclaimed film starring Brandon Lee, which used the track, brought The Cure a lot of new fans. However, many of these fans were upset because The Cure rarely played Burn during live shows. It wasn’t until 2016 where The Cure regularly added Burn to their touring playlist.

The Cure heavily influenced the creator of the graphic novel, James O’Barr. In the graphic novel not only was there is an entire page with the lyrics to “The Hanging Garden”, but also O’Barr directly took many chapter names from songs by Joy Division. Furthermore, The Cure planned on adding “The Hanging Garden” to the soundtrack, but Smith chose to write and record an original track instead.

Many musicians consider The Cure as a band for bands. If you look under the hood at their 1989 album Disintegration, in addition to advanced arrangements of simplicity there are additional hallmarks of ATG musicianship and composition. When I first heard Disintegration, I was intrigued at how they layered simple melodies together with various approaches to counterpoint in such a masterful way and didn’t muddle the sonic space.
